Turning a dream. . .

Alhumdulillah, the Islamic Society of Corona/Norco (ISCN) was established in 1988 by local Muslims to serve the spiritual, educational, and social needs of Muslims living in and around the city of Corona.

A small unit was rented in 1991 to hold ISCN activities and events. As the Muslim community grew, ISCN moved into a 2,500 square-foot warehouse in 1994.

Then, with the generous support of the growing community, ISCN was able to acquire more than four acres of flat land in the heart of Corona, adjacent to the city’s largest sports park. With the ample parking available at the park, and with easy access from the 15 & 91 freeways, this was the ideal place for a permanent Islamic center. Welcome to 465 Santana Way, home of the Corona Muslims.

The plans for ISCN include:
  • Separate men’s and women’s prayer halls, restrooms, and wudu areas
  • Full-time school building
  • Classrooms for various educational activities
  • Library
  • Da’wa Center
  • Youth activity center
  • Basketball court
  • Playground
  • Mommy & Me prayer room exclusively for mothers with children under 3
  • Women’s lounge area
  • Gift shop
  • Administrative offices
  • Kitchen
  • Multi-purpose room
  • Parking lot
  • Courtyard
  • Landscaping

. . . into reality

To ease the financial burden of the ambitious project, the development of the permanent Islamic center was divided into phases.

The first phase included a large multi-purpose room, administrative offices, classrooms, restrooms/wudu areas, kitchen, courtyard, and the primary parking lot and associated landscaping as required by the city. This allowed the area’s Muslims to take advantage of the new location as soon as possible. The multi-purpose room can accommodate nearly 500 people, and has served as the main prayer hall since ISCN relocated to this location in 2005. The room can be divided into two, three, or four sections with sound-proof partitions. The vast courtyard provides space for hundreds more worshippers, which has allowed ISCN to host large conferences, Qiyam-ul-Layl programs, and even Eid gatherings on site with more than 2,000 guests.

By 2009, the school building was completed, along with the outdoor basketball court. The school building is currently home to the Academy For Excellence, a full-time school for students in grades K-6. In addition, ISCN operates its Al-Huda, Al-Furqan, and Al-Noor educational programs in the free standing school building.

ISCN has developed and maintained a wonderful working relationship with city officials. Alhumdulillah, plans for the construction of the main men’s and women’s prayer halls have been approved. These plans include a minaret that will be visible from the 15 freeway. Insha'Allah, with the continued support from the community, construction on this part of the project is expected to begin in 2011.
